Voting at R.K. Nagar

Voting began at the Radhakrishnan Nagar constituency in North Madras on Saturday. Winning the seat will be an important feat for Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha. Ms. Jayalalitha has to win a constituency as MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) within 6 months of her being reinstated as Chief Minister. The AIADMK Supremo stepped down as Chief Minister after being convicted in the disproportionate assets case but was since acquitted.
A total of 28 candidates are contesting the post, out of which 26 are independents. The post was previously held by AIADMK�s P. Vetrivel, who stepped down to make way for Ms. Jayalalitha. The Chief Minister�s main rival is C. Mahendran from the Communist Party of India (CPI).
