CAMPAIGNING ENDS IN R.K. NAGAR

The campaigning for the Radhakrishnan Nagar bypolls ended yesterday evening. Polling will take place on June 27th and the counting of votes will be on June 30th.
The bypoll has seen 28 candidates campaigning. But the main contestants are Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha and CPI candidate C. Mahendran. The constituency, which is in North Chennai, was headed by AIADMK’s P. Vetrivel, who vacated his post in May this year, to make way for the Chief Minister. Ms. Jayalalitha is required to win an election as an MLA within six months of her being reinstated as Chief Minister.
