AN ACADEMY FOR FINE ARTS BY ALAGAPPA UNIVERSITY

Alagappa University has planned to start a Centre for Fine Arts from the next academic year.  Mr Sudalaimuthu, the Vice-Chancellor announced that The University would offer certificate courses initially on various disciplines such as dance, music, sculptures, veena, violin and others. 

The aim of the course was not just only to promote traditional music and cultural activities of the region, but also to create employment opportunities for youngsters the Vice Chancellor added. He further said that there was a great demand for those possessing degrees or certificates related to fine arts in Malaysia, Singapore, Canada and the United States of America and others. Temples, music sabhas, music colleges and others in far East Asian and western countries were among those offering jobs. 

The inauguration is likely to be held might be held in February in which Bharatanatyam exponent Padma Subramaniam, Kundrakudi Adigalar and Pichai Gurukkal are the likely invitees.
