PM FELICITATES VENKY THE NOBEL LAUREATE

Dr Manmohan Singh the Prime Minister felicitated the Nobel Laureate Venkataraman Ramakrishnan at the 98th Indian Science Congress in the city on Monday.

The Indian Science Congress has scheduled plenty of debates on academy-industry cooperation, environment.

The 98th Indian Science Congress at SRM University in Kattankulathur got one up on its sleeves as it has got the largest number of delegates and participation by eminent scientists including Nobel Laureates according to a press release from the University.

The Prime Minister expressed his wish that Indian Science to celebrate its centenary year [12-13] to be the `Year of Science in India.` The government would undertake a national celebration of the birth centenary of Nobel laureate S Chandrasekhar next year, he said.

The annual event was inaugurated Prime Minister Manmohan Singh this on Monday. R. Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Adviser to Government of India would  chair a session  on enhancing academia-industry interactions, will have debates relating to academia-industry cooperation in automotive research, interaction for machine tool development in the country, role of research and development in the Indian Electronics Industry sector among many other issues.

R. Ramamurthy, former General President of Indian Science Congress Association, will chair the session relating to ‘Environmental technology: Issues relating to waste minimization and management`.

Professor M.S.Swaminathan, eminent scientist, will chair the ‘Science Academies Summit between 11 a.m. and 1. pm. on Tuesday.
