TRAFFIC ON ANNA SALAI SAIDAPET SECTOR BLOCKED BY STUDENTS

More than 200 students- inmates of Adi Dravidic Hostels in Chennai took to streets at Saidapet blocking the traffic from either side. The students complained of poor living conditions and poor food.
The blockade started around 9 AM in the morning continued till the Minister for Ad Dravider Welfare ,Tamilarasi arrived in the afternoon after 2 PM. Only after the Minister promised that their problems will be addresses, did the students leave the road to the public. No official attempted to interact with the students effectively that resulted in heavy traffic diversions .
The Chennai district collector arrived on the scene around 12.40 ;before that the Joint Police commissioner tried to pacify the student in vain .People were caught unawares and were stranded on all the approaching roads for more than two hours. Metro buses were diverted at Nandanam and St Thomas Mount.
