10 Lakhs people have applied for linking their voter ID with Aadhar cards

Chennai Corporation officials have mentioned that more than 10 Lakhs people have applied for linking their voter ID with Aadhar cards.
Under the National Electoral Rolls Purification and Authentication Programme (NERPAP), voters will be allowed to open certain sections of the webpage of Election Commission of India (ECI) and link their Aadhaar number with their voter card. An SMS based services would also be made available and the details would be furnished shortly.
In Chennai there are 16 assembly constituencies. The Aadhar card linking is being done by Chennai Corporation in zones 4, 5, 6,8,9,10,13 Booth officials visit individual houses and collect the details.
Special camps for preparing a fool-proof poll roll under the National Electoral Roll Purification and Authentication Programme (NERPAP) are being organized on Sundays.
During the camp schedule, which commences from 10 a.m. and continues until 5 p.m. in the polling booths, booth level officers and other staff deputed to the camp would collect application forms to link Aadhaar data with Electoral Voter Identity Cards (EPIC) to avoid duplication of voters. The voters should fill in details of Aadhaar card number, mobile phone number and e-mail address in the application forms, which could be obtained from booths.
In a voter list released on 5th January, there were 38 lakhs34 thousand 388 voters in Chennai District. Out of which 19 lakhs 11 thousand 714 were men and 19 lakhs 21 thousands 905 are women. There are 769 transgenders.
Now, 10 lakhs people have submitted the applications to link Aadhar Card with Voters ID.
NERPAP was launched on March 3 in Chennai. Booth-level officials have started collecting Aadhaar number and voters� identity card numbers.
Voters have been asked to furnish data on www.nvsp.in, or send an SMS to 51969 in the following format (ECILINK (space) EPIC no. (space) Aadhaar no.) or call toll-free number �1950�. NERPAP aims to link Aadhaar with EPIC to ensure there are no bogus voters� cards and that electoral rolls are error free.
