G.Viswanathan, founder and chancellor of VIT University, Vellore said the potential held with our nation in our higher education and our ability to compete with international universities can be fully understood only if the system of affiliation for universities is abolished and more number of colleges are made autonomous.
Addressing a press conference for disclosing exam date for VIT Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) on Thursday, he said the reason behind the success with American colleges was the system of accreditation instead of affiliation.
When there is excessive control, it obviously leads to corruption. Only by bringing transparency we can bring best colleges in our nation. The system of affiliation is currently prevalent only in very meager south east Asian countries, but this is not even present with the British government now.
Mr. Viswanathan also added that over 2 lakh applications are received through computer based VITEEE which is set to happen between 8th and 19th April encompassing 112 cities which is inclusive of Dubai and Kuwait. Result of the same will be available on 30th April.
Counselling session is scheduled between 11th and 16th May. VIT campus received 276 companies for interviews in which 3479 students got placed.
