Fruits give relief to Chennaites who are suffering from heat

Chennaites are suffering because the mercury is soaring high. But the fruits that are available in large numbers give relief to people. Mangoes have started flooding the Koyambedu Wholesale Vegetable Market. Fruit lovers can feast on a minimum of six varieties of luscious mangoes, including the Banganapalli , Imampasand and Peethar . These fruits arrive mostly from Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.
Banganapalli mangoes are priced at Rs. 60-Rs. 100 a kg now, but the rate is expected to drop to Rs. 25-Rs. 50 a kg, over the next few days, when more of the succulent fruits arrive locally.
While watermelons are sold for Rs. 7 to Rs. 12 a kg in the wholesale market, oranges are available for Rs. 25-Rs. 40 a kg. Pomegranates are expensive, however, with a kg selling at Rs. 150-Rs. 200 in the retail market.
