Collection of Property tax in Chennai city by the corporation has exceeded Rs 500 crore this week. In the year 2013-14, about RS 460 crore was collected towards the same. As an impact of the measures taken by the civic body to augment the revenue, such an increase in collection is seen.
Speaking about this, one of the officials said over 1.06 lakh property tax receipts were generated online this year. It was just 37,192 last year, he pointed. It is seen that there is a hike in per cent of tax from 2 to 6 per cent this year. Considering the 15 zones of the city, there is an increase in collection of tax by 16 per cent. Furthermore, targeting people to volunteer for paying their property tax, zero transaction charges will soon be brought into practice.
