The central government is implementing a new scheme for extending educational financial assistance to students who were retrieved from child labour and learning in special training centres.

The scheme is being implemented from 1st July.

It is illegal to employ children below the ages of 14 in industrial factories and commercial establishments.

However, this trend of employing child labour persists due to various reasons such as poverty, acquiring additional skills, less wages, etc.

Under the guidance of the central government, the National Child Labour scheme is functioning to retrieve the child labourers and providing them with education. .

The students who complete 2 years training in special institutes will have the opportunity to continue higher education in the nearby government high schools.

National Child Labour Scheme is functioning in the districts of Chennai, Trichy, Virudhunagar, Thiruneleveli, Tuticorin, Namakkal, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Vellore, Kanchpuram,  Coimbatore, Dindigul, and Thiruvannamalai,

There are 19 special training institutes in Virudhunagar. 667 trainees (boys & girls) are being trained. Food, uniforms, and books are given free. Monthly allowance of Rs. 150/- is also paid to the students.

Savings accounts have been opened for every student and the financial assistance is deposited.

The practice of the monthly financial assistance being deposited directly from Delhi to the students savings account has been implemented in 1 district in every state,

In Tamil Nadu, it is being implemented in Trichy district on a trial basis.

The programme to implement in all the districts of every state is scheduled to be taken up from 1st July. Hence, it will be implemented in the other 14 districts of Tamil Nadu as well.
