Despite being too hot this March, you should be experiencing the sting of mosquitoes during the dusk in large numbers verily.

This was analyzed and studied recently and it is identified that these species remain active despite dip in mosquito related fever. A post-monsoon study was conducted by Tamil Nadu branch of the Indian Public Health Association (IPHA). According to the results of the study, density of mosquitoes is considerably reduced, however Chennai suffers Armigeres mosquitoes (special species of mosquitoes that are always a nuisance) by 78 per cent.

The study was conducted for over 15 days and was headed by a team of former public health officers and entomologists. Speaking about the results, state president, IPHA said mosquitoes are reduced by 40 to 50 per cent compared to their population in pre-monsoon and monsoon times. He also added that it is unusual to have such a density of mosquitoes in this period, but its too tough to measure their nuisance.

The study was conducted in over 100 locations which include Tondiarpet, Kilpauk, Velachery, Villivakkam, Adyar, Anna Nagar, etc. In the last two weeks, total complaints of mosquito menace received by the Chennai Corporation is said to have doubled.
