MADRAS HIGH COURT STAYS THE RELEASE OF ‘KAVALAN’

Justice S Rajeswaran, Madras high court has admitted a civil suit filed by the Singapore-based Tantra a Private Limited on Wednesday and issued stay order to the producers of the Movie, restraining them from releasing the Movie for period of six weeks. 

Tantra has contended that it had entered into an agreement with the Ekaveera Creations of Chennai on September 29 for distribution/exhibition of the film all over the world, except Tamil Nadu for a consideration of Rs 5.5 crore. A clause in the agreement is that the producer shall not sell or pledge the rights to anyone else without the knowledge of Tantra. Tantra has also paid Rs 1.5 crores as advance Prsent petion is because as per Tantra that the producers was trying vitiate this clause by trying to sell the global right of the film to  some other company.

Justice Rajeswaran satisfied himself that there was prima facia had been made out and satisfied with with the undertaking given by the Tantra to pay up , has issued orders of stay on the Film from being released.
