Spectrum auction price increase: Cell phone charges likely to go up!

The central government has fixed a higher base price for the spectrum auction.
According to information sources, this may lead to the cell phone service providers may increase the rate for the cell phone calls.
Central government had approved the maximum base price of Rs. 3.646 Crores on 5th January for the spectrum auction.
The director of the cell phone service providers’ association, Mr. Rajan Mathew, has written to the Minister for telecommunication, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad, that they may be compelled to increase the call rates following the higher base price for spectrum auction.
He also indicated that Rural Communication Project and government’s Digital India scheme will both be affected if the call rates are revised.
