Free online courses from IIT Madras

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and Indian Institute of Science (IISc),Bangalore have announced new online free certificate courses covering humanities, physics, management and chemical engineering, under the National Program on Technology Enhancement Learning(NPTEL) for students.
A program coordinator of NPTEL attached to IIT said access to the courses does not involve certification process.
Students study by themselves and can later take the exams.
Exams, at a nominal fee, will be held at several centers in the city.
Enrolment is open and the course will take place from Jan. 5 to Feb. 27. Exams will be conducted after the completion of the course. He added that the advantage of NPTEL online courses is that a set of classes and assignments for the week would be released. Students must commit two hours a week and submit assignments.
