To further extend their research and develop innovative ideas, they got the funding support from Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC). Mr. Bhaskar Ramamurthy, Director of IIT-M bio-incubator, hopefully points out that, students can take up many existing technologies and can polish them into products that are more useful.

Out of the Rs.10,000 crore allotted for entrepreneurship development by the Central Government of India, Rs. 10 Lakhs has been allocated to the startup projects of IIT-M Biotechnology Research wing. Entrepreneurs and bio-technology companies are welcome to utilize this opportunity. They have to sign with this Research wing in IIT-M and get approval from them.

Feasible startups, when selected, are provided with proper training, mentorship along with the lab and space facilities. So far four companies, three of them are alumni of IIT, have signed up.
