SCHOOL HEADS OF CHENNAI TRAINED ON LEADERSHIP SKILLS

M. Subramanian, The Mayor, Chennai Municipal Corporation   inaugurated the Three day Leadership Skills training and Management programme which was conducted at IIT-Madras. The program cost Rs. 7.5 lakh to the Chennai Corporation. Heads from nearly 100 Chennai Corporation schools. The Heads were trained on the aspects of leadership skills and management. The Mayor in his speech said that how the school heads think and act mattered as the attitude of the school`s head forerunner to the behavior of the Teachers as well as the students. The aim of the program was to enhance leadership qualities of the heads.  A motivated head can inspire students, Mr. Subramanian said. The civic body was in the process of identifying 100 students in classes IX and XI in order to specially coach them for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) that determines admissions to the Indian Institutes of Technology.

 M S Ananth- IIT-M Director outlined the three components of Education knowledge, know-how and character building. He advocated encouraging intuitive thinking among students. He advised the leaders to have a vision.

Participating school heads said they looked forward to learning a lot at the training programme, as being the head of a Chennai school was not an easy task.
