New scheme for conservation of heritage Sites

Urban Development Ministry of India is going to launch a new scheme called HRIDAY, ‘The Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana’ to improve the condition of our heritage sites and historic buildings. This is Rs 500 crore scheme and already 200 crores have been allotted for this in the current budget.

At the initial stage, this scheme is going to be implemented in seven important historical cities of India including Ajmer, Amritsar, Gaya, Kanchipuram, Mathura, Varanasi and Velankanni.

The specialty of this scheme is the integration of urban planning with heritage conservation. According to Urban Development Minister Mr. Venkaiah Naidu, heritage development means not only the beautification of the city and conservation of the heritage site but also the preservation and development of the entire city with respect to its cleanliness, planning, livelihood of the local people and economy.

Central Government of India will support the entire expenditure of HRIDAY and Urban Development Ministry will implement the scheme.
