Power shortage in Chennai and several districts following stoppage of generation

Owing to stoppage of power generation at Tuticorin, north Chennai and Vallur thermal power stations by one unit each, the total power generation accounted only to 10,430 MW yesterday. At the same time, the requirement of power increased to 11690 MW. This difference between demand and generation led to a lag in enough supply by 1260 MW. This in turn led to power shortage in various districts including Chennai.
