NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON BIO- DIVERSITY AT MADURAI KAMATAJAR UNIVERSITY

The Vice-Chancellors of Madurai Kamarajar University and the Tamilnadu Agricultural University attended the inaugural session of a national conference on “Biodiversity for Sustainable Development: Threats, Indicators, Climate Change, Poverty Alleviation and Targets for Safeguarding Biodiversity”, organised by the Centre for Biodiversity and Forest Studies, School of Energy, Environment and Natural Resources, MKU. In  the function Madurai Kamaraj University Vice-Chancellor R.Karpaga Kumaravel released a souvenir and presented the first copy to Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor P.Murugesa Boopathi at a national conference on biodiversity in Madurai on Wednesday.

The second phase of  ‘Go Green` campaign in Madurai Kamaraj University was aimed at protecting green cover in and landscaping of the varsity campus .

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), which assisted the MKU in its first phase of the campaign, would extend its expertise for the next phase also.

TNAU Vice-Chancellor P. Murugesa Boopathi, along with MKU Vice-Chancellor R. Karpaga Kumaravel and other officials went around the campus and had a look at the landscaping done in the first phase during his visit to the university here on Wednesday.

The help of TNAU would also be taken for implementing holistic development programmes at Kannanur village in Usilampatti taluk which was adopted by the MKU last week under the Village Adoption Scheme. Information on modern agricultural practices, fertilisers, pesticides, cropping pattern, soil/water quality testing and crop-suitability will be extended to the villagers.
