Less queues in PRS because of IRCTC’S Gen X Avatar

Union Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda had launched in August IRCTC’s next generation ticketing (NGET) system. This system has augmented the booking capacity from 1,200 to 7,200 tickets per minute. Because of this, the number of people queuing up at Southern Railway’s Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters to book tatkal tickets has radically come down, especially after IRCTC ramped up its capacity and speed recently.

The normal number of tatkal transactions per day between 10 am and noon at PRS counters across Southern Railway has come down from 10,407 in May to 4,121 in August.

For the 32 centres in Chennai division, the number came down from 2,502 in May to just 930 in August.
