Kamal Hassan to be honoured by Kerala during Onam

The Govt. of Kerala is organizing the annual state level Onam Celebrations-2010 from 22nd to 28th August at Thiruvananthapuram on a grand scale.  This year’s cultural festival will provide a platform for around 3000 artists to perform in 18 different venues around the city.  The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala Shri. V.S. Achuthanandan will inaugurate the festival by lighting the ceremonial lamp on 22 August 2010 at 6.30 pm at the Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram.  

A major highlight of this year’s Onam celebrations would be the honoring of Dr. Kamal Haasan, who is celebrating his 50th year in the film industry. The state Government had decided to honour this versatile artist who has drawn both critical and popular acclaim for himself as an actor, director, script writer, dancer and producer during the inaugural ceremony of this year’s Onam festival.  Shri. V.S. Achuthanandan ,the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala, Shri.Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Hon’ble Minister Home, Vigilance & Tourism,Shri.M.A.Baby, Hon’ble Minister for Education & Culture, Shri.V.Sivankutty MLA, Chairman of the Programme Committee for Onam Celebrations-2010 will be present along with the various associations of the film industry such as South Indian Film Chamber, Kerala Film Chamber, Film Distributors Association, Film Exhibitor’s Federation, Producers Association, FEFKA  etc to honor Dr. Kamal Haasan by presenting him mementos.  The function will also be attended by the Hon’ble Ministers of Kerala, Shri.Oommen Chandy, and Hon’ble Leader of Opposition, Shri.C.Jayan Babu, Worshipful Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram, Dr.Shashi Tharoor, M.P and various other dignitaries.

A special stage show entitled ‘Swarna Kamalam’ directed by the noted Malayalam Film Director Shri. T.K. Rajeev Kumar will follow the inaugural ceremony.  The show will be exclusively based on the 50 years of Dr. Kamal Haasan in the film Industry.  Noted artists like Dr. S.P. Balasubramanyam, Madhu Balakrishnan, Mathangi, Padmashri Dhananjayan, Shanta Dhananjayan, Padmashri Mattannoor Shankarankutty, Alappy Karunamoorthy, Balabhaskar, Kottayam Nazeer etc will perform.  All songs performed during the Ganamela will be from the films of Dr. Kamal Haasan.  There will be an originally composed symphony dedicated to Sri Kamaal Hasaan,by noted Instrumentalist, Balabhaskar. A percussion ensemble based on Nattuvangam    will be lead by Sri. Dhananjayan, Smt. Shanta Dhananjayan, Padmashri Mattannoor Shankarankutty and Allappy Karunamoorthy,
