Tamil Nadu government does away with the practice of attestation for all departments and all purposes.From now on, a person himself can vouch for the genuineness of the document without having to go through the cumbersome process of getting it green inked from a competent official.
This comes close on the heels of the recommendation by the Centre to move forward, prompted by the success of Punjab and Kerala in this regard.
According to the official, attestation by gazetted officers serves no purpose, as the final verification is completed only after the originals are produced.
With regard to this, Tamil Nadu Government as issued the following order, The government directs all the departments to do away with the practice of attestation of certificates by Government officers of Group B and above and instead to provide for self-attestation of certificates by the individuals themselves and they shall produce the originals at the time of interview or final appointments to the post as the case may be.
