TNERC to hold public hearing on tariff hike

The Tamil Nadu Energy Regulatory Commission (TNERC) will hold a public hearing in Chennai (Oct 24), Erode (Oct 28) and Tirunelveli (Oct 31) on the proposed tariff hike. The commission has decided to proceed on suo-motu basis on the provisional electricity tariff determination. But some customers are sore at the reduction in the number of public hearings and also the advancement of them. The proposed tariff hike is likely to have little effect on the poor as the government has assured to absorb the increase through subsidy.
