The police department of India is eyeing on the widely used Social Media platform, WhatsApp to make it their right hand. This mobile application may soon be used for national security in the country.

In a recent launch by the Lucknow police, WhatsApp complaint tool was initiated for the public to send across complaints about traffic offences: over speeding of vehicles, not wearing helmet, not stopping at red light, etc. In addition, they also have plans to link WhatsApp mobile number with 1090 helpline that may address complaints about eve teasing.

And the list doesn’t end with it. Plans are on to keep track of ticket collectors, vendors and coach attendants in railway stations. The mobile app will also be used to alert the public about area-specific criminal acts like eve teasing, chain snatching, and much more.

Interestingly, the Delhi police launched an exclusive helpline number to get control over corruption in police department.
