DOCTORS AWARDED FOR THEIR EXCEPTIONAL SERVICES

Ekam Foundation and Udhavum Karangal, Two NGO s jointly  honoured  eight doctors  with Dr. K.S Sanjiv Award in a function held on the Occasion of Doctors in Chennai on Sunday .  V K Subburaj  , Secretary to Health and Family Welfare  who  was the Chief Guest of the function handed over the awards to the  Doctors.. Awarded included a citation and a laser itched trophy.

The Awardees  were:

Dr  Amutha Rajeswari , Assistant Professor  of Paediatrics ,  Madurai Medical College  and also an Assistant Surgeon in Goverrnment Rajaji Hospital  .Madurai. She has treated more than 300 mentally retarded children in Anbagam a Child home , Madurai and 200 special children in Bethason Speical School ,  Madurai , all free of cost.

 Dr Shiva Prasad Sahoo,an Opthamalogist . Founder  Director of Triochan Netralaya . Dedicate himself to elimianate avoidable  blindness in the povertu stricken areas of Western Odisha.

Dr Sarala Rajajee   Paediatric  Haemotologist, Immunologist , Mehta Hospital, Chennai.She provides food , Hospitalization expenses  and drugs for the  poor patients.

Dr Muthusamy, ENT Surgeon, Madurai. A general Practioner who has done more than 1000 free medical c amps.

Dr Vanaja, Joint Director Public Health Services and Preventive Medicine . She has initiated private –public partnership  for bringing up Medavakkam Public Health center  as a Country Model.

Dr R Krishnamurthy, Hand Micro Surgeon, Professor and  HOD, Hand & Reconstruction Dept and a Senior  Civil Surgeon  , Stanley Medical College . He has been instrumental in fast tracking the development of the department and applying technology making the services available in the Primary health Centers. 

Dr J S Sathya Narayana Murthy, Professor and and HOD Cardiac Catherization laboratory, Sri Ramachandra Meical University . He has helped more than 35 children to get free surgery.

Dr Subramanya Bharathiyar, Professor and HOD of Anesthesia, Chief Anesthetist, Stanley Medical College  Chennai. He has conducted innumerable free surgical camps in and around Chennai

Shri  Subburaj  in his  speech felicitated the doctors  saying that they have been awarded  and recognized for their yeomen service to the community. All of them have show n exceptional commitment, going beyond their normal call of duties. Further in his speech V K Subburaj was highlighting the excellent Public Health Center system in Tamilnadu. According to him US Consultant General has appreciated the system and WHO have documented the same for reference model to other developing countries.  He said that India needs more than 650 Medical Colleges and Tamilnadu is leading in establishing more Medical colleges with the aim of reaching out to rural people.

Dr R Krishnamurthy  in his acceptance speech said that  Government Hospital  especially Stanley Medical College  is well equipped and well staffed  to provide better medical services  than even the corporate hospitals .

 Dr K S Sanjiv Award was instituted by  CIOSA and Udhavum Ullangal in 2004 in memory of Dr K S Sanjiv the doyen of Community Health Care in Chennai and founder of Voluntary Health Services, Taramani. This award is  given to Doctor who have  served the poor .

EKAM-Foundation is a community Pediatrics project to provide complete and ho9listic health care to underprivileged children through private-public partnership. Udhavum Ullangal is a NGO founded with sole objective  of  serving the people in distress.
