Chennai Corporation to be stringent on trees being razed

Two days after corporation workers cut down two trees and a branch of another in RA Puram to set up a new Amma canteen, the city corporation on Tuesday said it would take stringent action against anyone felling trees.
Corporation officials said they received instructions to avoid cutting trees for projects. �Employees have to either transplant such trees to another location or plant 10 new trees if one tree is chopped down in case it is absolutely essential,� a senior corporation official said. He said action would be taken against officials who cut down trees without permission from the corporation.
