WEBSITE FOR NURSERIES PRODUCED BY SHGS
The District Supply and Marketing Society (DSMS), Pudukottai is planning
to launch a comprehensive website on ten specified products, with a focus on
ornamental nurseries being produced by the SHGs of Kallukudiruppu village near
Arimalam. This is done with the objective of helping to promote the products
made by the women members of Self-Help Groups, (SHG). There has been growing
demand for the nurseries of various ornamental plants, says
There are about 60 women divided into four SHGs who grow and market the
nurseries of ornamental plants at Kallukudirupu village, an interior village.
Interestingly, these women were reformed prohibition offenders who were
resorting to illicit distillation or sale of arrack in the interior reserve
forest zones in Arimalam.
“Every group is skilled in producing quality ornamental plants of
various varieties. For instance, they produce different varieties of rose
flower. Similarly, there are various jasmine varieties,” says Mr. Sathyaseelan.
The website would comprehensively
illustrate digital photos of the ornamental plants, inter alia , will
include the name of the product, details about its quality, the price-tag, the
name of the SHG making it. The SHG would also be able to supply to the bulk requirement
as they also adequate stock. The Website is expected to be launched in a
months’ time.
