The below par water bodies across the city suburbs will soon get a brand new charter of life, since the Water Resources Department (WRD) is analyzing the chances of budding them into eco-sightseeing spots.
In a
proposal to revitalize the water bodies, the WRD is welcoming ideas from
voluntary institutions for their far- reaching development. Under this pilot
project, the WRD has decided to cover water bodies in areas including
Madhavaram, Ambattur and Korattur with the technical backing from voluntary institutions.
Recently
the representatives of the WRD has arranged a meeting with Care Earth Trust, a city-based biodiversity research
organization, and Chennai City Connect to discuss regarding the issues
infecting the lakes and measures to renovate them.
A WRD official said that, the water bodies were
dissipated their temperament and gratitude to speedy urbanization.
Water bodies were dwindling, due to the overrun vegetation, says the managing director of the Care Earth Trust during her discussion in the meeting.
