Many changed are being brought into effect by Indian Railways in all day-to-day operations. Additional importance is given to matters relating to safety and food requirement of passengers.

Lot of changes are being planned from the existing food fare offered in order to provide the passengers with new items of better quality.

New menus have been prepared for passengers travelling in Rajdhani, Sapthapathi, and Turanto Express trains.

The food will be offered through the 4 zones of Indian Railways – North, East, West, and South.

As soon as the passengers take their seats, coffee, tea, tender coconut, or buttermilk will be offered.

‘Ready-to-eat’ packed food items will be on offer.

For the passengers from South India, popular items like Chettinadu Chicken’ will be on offer. Special food items (North Indian menu) will be offered in different zones.

This dramatic change has been due to regular complaints received regarding the low quality of food offered up to now.

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation, ICRTC, has entered into contracts with some popular caterers.

Some items are being introduced on a ‘test’ basis in a few trains. Based on the popularity rating by the passengers, the facility will be extended to other trains.

Apart from the vegetarian & non-vegetarian fare, tea, coffee, soft drinks, and tetra-packs of all popular brands will be on offer.

This changed menu for the passengers will be operative from 13th August.

In cases where the trains are getting delayed by 1 or 2 hours, lunch, dinner, and beverages will be offered free of cost during the delayed running. This expenditure will be borne by the zonal railway.

Special food for diabetics is also planned. Tea & Coffee will be offered free for the short-distance travelling passengers.

Plans also ensure that the same food is not repeated in a single day and menu will be changed.

All zonal offices have been instructed about these changes regarding better quality and new food items.

South Zone railway authorities are expected to receive this before the end of the day (Friday, 8th August).  The new scheme will be implemented in a all Rajdhani, Sapthapathi, and Turanto express trains.
