Hospital crosses 1,000 live donor kidney transplants

At a programme organized to mark organ donation day , which falls on Wednesday , nephrology department head Dr N Gopala Krishnan said the department had done 1003 live renal transplants and 140 cadaver renal transplants till date. �We have done 1143 renal transplant procedures so far and achieved a 92% survival rate after first year of the donation. We have also treated 57 beneficiaries from other states, �he said.
GH dean Dr R Vimala said Tamil Nadu was the first state to offer free transplant services and Madras Medical College had the maximum number of free transplants to its credit in the country.
