Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa announces 360 new Amma canteens in Tamil Nadu

Another 360 Amma canteens are to be set up across Tamil Nadu. This was announced by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. The announcement comes just a day after an Egyptian delegation visited the budget canteen in General Government Hospital to understand the logistics and replicate the model in their country.
There are 203 Amma canteens across the 200 wards in Chennai. The canteens have been a huge hit among the public especially the poor who get nutritious food at subsidized rates. Each ward is set to get another Amma canteen.
Jayalalithaa said, “Several other states are keen on implementing the model and it is being discussed globally .
The canteens launched last year served breakfast and lunch and began serving chappatis for dinner earlier this year.
