Delay in issue of free bus passes - use old ones, says department

Officials at the transport department have stated that owing to the delay in distribution of new passes, students can make use of the old ones for travelling in buses. This decision is made upon receiving orders from the Tamil Nadu government.
Transport departments in the municipal and city areas are undertaking works for distributing free bus passes for school students for the year 2014-15. Applications for the same are being supplied from 12th of last month. At this juncture, the schools are set to reopen on June 2. Despite the very short time for reopening, not many numbers of filled applications are submitted to the department. Additionally, companies are not yet been finalized for producing the bus passes. Owing to these reasons, issuing new passports seem to be troublesome and getting delayed.
When enquired to an official regarding this, he says that the department allows the students to show their old bus passes which they have been using in the year 2013. Accordingly, students can make use of the old bus passes till August 2014.
