SCADA Information Centre to know more about TANGEDCO’s problems

TANGEDCO’s SCADA Information Centre with the latest technological faculties is all set to be commissioned before the end of this year.
TANGEDCO’s Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (R-APDRP) is formed in order to monitor the construction of substations, installation of new power transformers, etc. SCADA Information Centre is also under R-APDRP’s wings. With the application of latest technology, SCADA centre links all the substations and power transmission routes in Tamil Nadu.
As per the statistics from the year 2001, it was decided to have the SCADA centre linked to cities with over 4 Lakh population like Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Salem, Trichy, and Thirunelveli
With this centre, it is possible to locate any faults in the power transmission & distribution systems covered in the above cities. The centre also facilitates better maintenance of the transmission & distribution systems.
The establishment of SCADA centre commenced in the year 2008. Even after 4 years, the project is yet to be completed raising serious question when & whether about its completion date.
A senior official from TANGEDCO informed:
SCADA information system incorporates the latest GPS & GIS technology. The linking of all the substations and transformers is progressing. SCADA information centre is located in the headquarters office of TANGEDCO. 60% work is completed.
Central government’s Power Finance Corporation has provided the finance of Rs. 182 Crores.
It is expected that the balance work would be completed before the end of this year and the SCADA Information Centre would commence functioning.
