Warning notices to 28 schools

According to the Right to Education Act, schools ought to comply with the reservation of 25 per cent seats for students from lower income groups. However, as over 28 schools do not comply with this act, a complaint has been filed by an NGO, Becoming I Foundation. As a step to rectify this, the directorate of matriculation of schools in Tamil Nadu sent warning notices to these 28 schools present in Chennai, Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur districts.
Speaking to the general secretary of Tamil Nadu nursery, primary matriculation and higher secondary association, K.R. Nandakumar, he said the warning notice has been put up on the notice boards of these schools, as it would be visible for parents. The RTE admission process is underway and we want parents to bring their income certificate at the time of admission. This will be the only proof for their eligibility, he added.
A volunteer from Becoming I Foundation says officials from their foundation make regular visits to schools to assist parents in admission formalities, but none of the school has put up notifications about the 25 per cent seat allotment. This has led to sending warning notices to these schools for ignoring RTE admissions.
