Increased power generation expected this year

Posted on: 23/May/2014 11:52:59 AM
Tamil Nadu gets the necessary electricity from thermal power plants, nuclear power plants, hydroelectric power plants, windmills and diesel power generating stations. Out of these, hydroelectric power plants and windmills require the support of nature for power generation. Generation can be carried out in hydroelectric power plants and windmills only during rainy and windy days. Owing to the changes in climatic conditions, there are changes in power generation too.

Every year, as we could find increased blow of wind between June and August, the power generation will be higher during these three months. These months are referred as ‘peak load’ months. Generally, nearly 3500 to 4000 MW power is generated in this time period. Contrarily, there is no power generation at all in the rest of the months. However, this year, well before the commencement of ‘peak load’, the power generation is commenced. And there was nearly 2300 MW of generation day before yesterday. Due to climatic changes, it is expected that the power generation will be in its peak till October this year.
