Chennaites may miss out on the rain or thundershowers

Posted on: 23/May/2014 11:46:41 AM
There was forecast that Chennaites may experience rain or thundershowers owing to convectional activity. The depression over east-central Bay of Bengal is expected to move north-east towards Myanmar and Bangladesh.

“The depression has been moving away from us in the north-east direction. The State will get some rain but this will be due to convectional activity here and not due to the depression,” said S R Ramanan, Director of the Area Cyclone Warning Centre.

It has been forecast that north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will receive rainfall in some places. Isolated rain or thundershowers may occur in south Tamil Nadu on Friday.

On Thursday heavy rainfall was recorded in Krishnagiri and Virudhanagar districts. On Friday rainfall is forecast for the districts of Dharmapuri, Dindigul, Krishnagiri, Madurai, Namakkal, Nilgiris, Salem, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchirappalli and Vellore.

But in Chennai city and its suburbs the sky remains partly cloudy, with no hope of rain. The maximum and minimum temperature will be around 40 and 30 degrees Celsius respectively.
