Chennaites experienced scorching temperature on Thursday. Scorching temperatures returned to the city on Thursday with the Met office recording a maximum of 41.6°C in Nungambakkam and 42.4°C in Meenambakkam. The minimum temperature recorded was also high in both stations with Nungambakkam registering 30°C and Meenambakkam registering 29.2°C.But low humidity (50%) provided some relief. Sea breeze set in late and a change in the wind direction caused the mercury to soar, the Met office said.

“Winds from the west brought hot air to the city , making it hotter,“ said S Bagulayan Thampi, deputy director-general, India Meteorological Department.
