Summer festival at Ooty kicks off

The cultural programme segment of the 2014 Summer Festival began on a bright note here on Monday. The events, organized by the district administration and the Department of Tourism, were held at the Breeks Open Air stadium.
The traditional lamp was lit by Nilgiris Collector P. Sankar. While a troupe from Srirangam presented a traditional Bharathanatyam piece, children of the Badaga community performed their customary dance. Clad in their traditional attire, members of the Kota tribal community also staged a traditional dance.
Mixture of dance, drama and music performances would go on till May 29. Programmes would commence at 3.30 p.m. and conclude by about 9 p.m. It would not only showcase the culture of Tamil Nadu but also other States like West Bengal, Punjab, Rajasthan and Karnataka.
