Posted on: 19/May/2014 3:05:42 PM
There are arrears of water bill payment over several Crores from the various government servants quarters. Tamil Nadu Housing Board has come forward to settle this by paying the first instalment of Rs. 10 Crores.

The government servants’ quarters with outstanding bills for water charges include Saidapet Tadendar Nagar, Royappettai Peter’s Colony, the TN Housing Board’s building complexes in Anna Nagar and Mandavelli. The water charges are billed to the Tamil Nadu Housing Board.

These buildings are mostly more than 30 years’ old. Notices have already been issued to vacate the building. When new constructions are built in these places, there should be no outstanding payment for water & electricity.

Problems in getting approval

As there are huge amounts of pending payments for MMWSSB, the approval to build new residences has been put on the block.

Temporary relief

While it is a fact that several crores are to be paid against the pending water bills, there should not be delay in getting approval for the new construction. In order to facilitate this, Tamil Nadu Housing Board has decided to pay a first instalment of Rs. 10 Crores against this pending amount. TNHB has also requested that this payment should not be treated as a penalty but as a part payment.
