Increasing demand for power

Posted on: 15/May/2014 2:40:49 PM

Owing to the increasing overload troubles, there have been increased power cuts in evening times across Chennai. There are nearly 27 lakh power consumers in Chennai and its nearby areas. This contributes to 2500 to 3000 MW power of the total demand for power across the state. As of now, over 165 auxiliary units are set up in and around Chennai. Power is distributed to the consumers via cables or wirings.

Overload issues:

Owing to the increasing heat and temperature in this summer season, the use of A.C is in turn increasing day by day. Additionally, this being a vacation time, most kids and children keep watching TV which furthermore contributes to increased power consumption. On account of these reasons, there are overload troubles at time of power generation.

Biller fuse – this is the trouble occurring at the power poles near domestic places

Cable fault – troubles with the cables supplying electricity to consumers

Opening jumper – ejection of jumper from transformers due to excessive heat

Cable puncture – damage in cables due to repair works done on roads

Above are some of the common troubles faced.
