Construction of ‘Open-air’ theatres – Chennai City mayor consults with experts
As per the Chief Minister’s Order to facilitate public to watch & enjoy films at lower rates by constructing open-air theatres, Chennai City mayor, Saidai Duraiswamy had consultations with the experts in building construction.
Amma Theatres
People belonging to very different income groups live in the city of Chennai. Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has order that a variety of facilities should be provided to the people of very low income groups. Chennai Corporation presented the budget on 19th February which included some of the facilities. Accordingly, Chennai city mayor. Saidai Duraiswamy informed that 2 features – Amma Weekly Fairs for sales of different items including grocery & clothes and construction of open-air theatres – will be introduced. Actrvities for these 2 introductions have started and are in good progress.
Amma weekly fair
Amma weekly fairs are planned to be conducted on a trial basis in 15 wards in the city. They will be held on Saturdays & Sundays.
Women’s Improvement Directorate, Women’s self-help Groups, Women self-financing groups and some government agencies will be involved in the Amma weekly fairs. Handicrafts and other products made by poor people will also be put up for sale.
Amma fair will sell a variety of products ‘under one roof’. These incnclude grocery items, food items and all basic necessity items.
Cinema Theatres
Open-air cinema theatres will be constructed in each ward under the Chennai Corporation. Work has already commenced on this front. Toilet facilities and sales of food items will also be made available. Notably, all movies will be released in these open-air theatres.
Mayor’s consolation
Chennai city mayor has been conducting consultancy meetings with experts in the field on the lay-out, facilities, and features of the Amma weekly Fair locations and the open-air theatres.
