Rainfall brings dip in power demand

Showers across the city have brought good signs in couple of aspects including power demand. This has led to a dip in temperature that in turn has now brought down the power demand from conventional range of 12000 or 13000 MW to 8945 MW. This has brought a sigh of relief among power managers who were struggling to tackle the power demand in the ‘kathiri’ season. Comparing these days with that of 2013, the demand was 10,000 MW out of which there was a shortage of 2300 MW.
Speaking to one of the TNEB officials, he says they experienced such a dip in demand during ‘kathiri’ period happened four years ago. In general, dip in power demand is faced only during October – November time when cyclone brings rainfall and chill weather. He says he gets reminded of the cyclone Laila in 20 May 2010 which brought down the demand to low levels. After Laila cyclone, this is for the next time such a dip has occurred.
