Chennai Corporation has decided to construct 50000 rainwater collections systems throughout Chennai City by the roads covering 1000 km.
Chennai city has an insufficient number of of water storage arrangements. The rivers are highly polluted. As such, when compared with other districts in the state of Tamil Nadu, the ground water level in Chennai district is relatively very low.
20 metre gaps
As a measure to increase the ground water level in the city of Chennai, the state government has ordered construction of rainwater collection systems in all buildings and roads. Accordingly, Chennai Corporation has commenced work on this project.
The corporation has planned to construct 50000 rainwater collections system by the side of the roads in this financial year. Especially concerning the concrete roads, the corporation plans to construct a rainwater collection arrangement every 20 metres of the road.
