Mobile Number Portability Reaps Foothold!

Posted on: 25/Apr/2014 9:52:01 AM
Mobile Number Portability (MNP) has now been commonly used by the mobile users, to alter their telecom service contributors. It facilitates a subscriber to modify his or her mobile operator whilst hold on to the mobile number.

A survey shows that during the duration of December to February, about 25 lakhs people register MNP request to alter their mobile operators.

Up to February 2014, about 114 million customers had applied for MNP across the country. About this, February alone stands for 2.47 million requests for MNP.

Any mobile subscriber who is not satisfied with the range of good turns facilitated by their operator is assisting MNP to alter to other service providers, said S.C. Khanna, telecom consultant and former secretary general of AUSPI.

Nearly 2.5 million MNP request forms per month is pretty reasonable. It shows the stage of frustration with the eminence of services rendered by the telecom operators, says Mahesh Uppal, director of consultancy firm ComFirst India.

On the other hand, Rajan Mathews, COAI director general of the GSM operators association rejected this count as irrelevant.

On 20 January 2011, the mobile number portability has been commenced worldwide by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Following to the subsequent step in MNP, now government is seeking to permit subscribers to stay their mobile number even if they change cities and states.
