Air travelers can use their mobile phones in India

Posted on: 24/Apr/2014 12:40:54 PM
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation’s (DGCA) move now brings Indian flyers at par with their counterparts in Europe and the US where airlines have been allowed from late last year to let passengers use their mobile phones and other personal electronic devices (PEDs) in non-transmitting or airplane mode during all durations of a flight except for the rare occasions when the captain specifically asks for them to be switched off due to technical reasons.

Now air travelers here — over 80% of whom fly low cost carriers that do not have in-flight entertainment — can click pictures or videos, listen to music, watch movies, play games and write mails (but send them after landing) on their smartphones in flight mode all times while flying.
