Will there be action on exorbitant school fees charged by many private schools?
In order to check & control the exorbitant fees charged by self-financing private schools, a committee was formed under the retired justice, Mr. Singaravelu fix the proper school fees. The committee recommended the fees as per the quality and facilities provided by the private schools. This was approved by the government. The details of the fees for different schools was released on the internet for the public awareness.
Currently, it is reported that some private schools charge as high as Rs. 4 lakhs for LKG admissions. Some schools ask further for donation as well.
In these circumstances, Justice Singaravelu Committee has announced that any complaint received with proper evidence on this issue will be taken up for legal action n the concerned school.
Last year, some parents visited the committee office and made complaint about the exorbitant school fees charged by some schools. Subsequently, legal notices were issued to the concerned schools. The approvals for running the schools were cancelled for 7 schools.
However, the schools take full advantage of the parents’ fear about the education and future of their kids and choosing to remain silent.
Will the committee be forceful and effective in its actions?
I>It is the expectation of the parents that these actions should not be just nominal; severe action must be taken to curb this tendency to fleese parents of the students.
