Kayathar – Chennai transmission line to commence by end of April

Posted on: 15/Apr/2014 4:58:47 PM
It is expected that the long-awaited Kayathar-Chennai transmission line would get commissioned by later weeks of April. This line will carry renewable power from largest wind belt in Tamil Nadu. A load of over 1500 MW power will be transmitted from here to parts of Chennai that is currently facing power scarcity. It is to be noted that the Khayathar region is among the four major wind power pockets in Tamil Nadu. The others are Aralvaimozhi, Andipattti and Palghat.

This line and other high-capacity transmission lines present between Theni and Selam districts are the exclusive renewable energy projects with ‘green corridor’ concept. These projects connect the southern and northern parts of Tamil Nadu.

Though such transmission set ups are to be done, this cannot ensure proper supply of power in the state, because of fluctuations in wind energy. Tangedco might shut these wind power industries on account of such fluctuations.
