Vegetable Garden in Hospitals – Serving Diet Rich Food for Patients
Henceforth, the food served to the patients in the hospital is not just cooked there, but also directly breed in the hospital.
Deprived patients surviving at the Voluntary Health Services will soon be nourished with a diet dripping in vegetables obtained from the hospital`s garden.
During January, the authorities of the hospital has decided to convert 30 % land for kitchen patches for breeding several veggies like tomato, pepper, broad beans, eggplant, ash guard, pumpkin, okra, bitter guard and spinach.
The harvested products, will be used in the hospital kitchen to serve out fresh food to patients; also these veggies helps the hospice to serve healthy meals to a minimum of 90 poor patients freely, said S. Suresh, Honorary Secretary of VHS.
The hospital says its expenses touches Rs.8, 000 monthly on procuring of vegetables for its kitchen. But vegetables vended in the market are liable to have large sum of pesticides. Staffs at the hospital employ natural preservatives like droppings and compost.
The sketch of this new garden plan rolls up, during the discussion session of the executive committee of the hospital regarding the conversion of the surplus space in its campus.
Few doctors and nurses volunteered to work in the garden. Till now, hospital has spent nearly Rs.30, 000 on the garden.
