After several years of arguments, the bus rapid transit system (BRTS) proposal may lodge to live in Chennai.

On Tuesday, state government enters into a series of conversations on employing this project. Today we put our heads together with the sources of funding for this proposal, stated a senior official.

As per the request from KFW, a German empowering group, Mr.Braj Kishore Prasad the transport secretary organized the meeting and the participant’s lists include Managing Director of Chennai Metro Rail, the Municipal Management secretary and the water hoard secretary.

Many independent transport backing groups like Institute of Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) and Chennai City Connect were also at hand in the meeting.

For the past six years, this project has been on hold in the proposal stage and now the paper work will be yet to start.

We hopefully will not furnish any policy verdicts right now as the archetype rules of steer are in place. On conclusion of the elections, we will direct a detailed project report (DPR), said an official.

DRP is a mandatory entity for the government to look for funding. The BRTS proposal includes road laying, street improvement and buses. It generally costs between 20 Crore to 30 Crore per km.
