New Equipment to Monitor Smog around Dumping Yards - TNPCB

Soon, we will mount three stations to scrutinize the air quality in the city, confirmed by the TamilNadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB).

Order for the fund of Rs. 6 Crores; have been placed in favor of furnishing the respective equipments, said a senior official from the TNPCB.

Soon, the equipment with advanced technologies which will notate 12 diverse parameters including Ammonia, Toluene and Ozone, will be launched at Kodungaiyur, Royapuram and Perungudi areas.

Till now Chennai Corporation has received many grievances regarding the activity of garbage burning at the bump yards at Kodungaiyur and Perungudi. Hence these two areas have been chosen for furnishing the station. Since Royapuram is very close to Chennai Port, this gets mounted in the list.

We are in the stage of importing the equipments and hence the planned stations will be endowed in few months.

Based on the latest crams in Chennai, it has been found out that the poised dust acts as the key pollutant which ought to be pact with, says Rajesh Rangarajan, an environmental researcher.

The continuous scrutiny of the air quality is mainly to recognize the source and its impact on the pollution; also the board needs active usage of this information in order to fetch an air quality index across the city, he added.
